Hi Everyone….. It’s Greg Weisner

This isn’t easy to ask, but sometimes life puts us in a place where asking becomes the only way forward.

I’ve got something to share with everyone that is not easy for me.

For some of you, it will be the first time you’ve heard about it. Some of you may already know a little about my kidney disease and my need to find a Living Kidney Donor. Very few know the whole story.

So here it goes…

Who Am I?

My name is Greg Weisner and I am a United States Air Force veteran having served 4 years in the military.  I am also a happily married man to my wonderful wife Charlette.  We met while I was enlisted in the Air Force and were engaged within 18 months.  I was born and raised in a rural community in South Dakota where everybody knew everybody.  We currently reside in New Jersey and live in a small development with a mix of young and older residents. From an early age, my parents instilled in me and my two younger siblings the importance of helping others and most importantly the notion of helping others without expecting anything in return.  Growing up in South Dakota, my father owned the only hardware store within a 30-mile radius for many years and eventually sold it. He then bought the only grocery store in the area and operated it for several years.  As I grew older, I recognized and appreciated the important lessons I learned from my father and the manner he cared for his fellow neighbors and customers with his hardware and grocery store. He was dedicated to their well-being and looked out for everyone especially when there were difficult situations and stressful financial challenges.  He was a kind, gentle and giving individual and that quality has always been a part of me throughout my life.

My wife and I both come from families that greatly value the importance and meaning of FAMILY. We are blessed to have a very large family with many nieces and nephews. Caring for others as well as the willingness to help those less fortunate than most or caring for those who can no longer help themselves is something that has been a major part of who we both are as a married couple. We both have experienced family that has dealt with severe medical and health issues that required us to provide extensive support, love, kindness and compassion to assist them at their most vulnerable times of need.

My professional career was in the petroleum industry working for a large oil company for many years and then spending a few years working as a consultant. During my consulting years, I found an opportunity to help many people. I authored documents that verified the various lubricants we produced were ecofriendly as well as being aquatic friendly. Being part of a large-scale industrial effort to help protect our planet’s environment was and is very important to me. My wife and I actively participate in recyclable programs to keep useable waste out of landfills.

The Beginning

I initially learned of my kidney disease during a routine blood test many years ago when my doctor told me that my kidney function was diminished. I had always been an active individual and enjoyed being physically active in my community with various organizations and traveling around the country and overseas. Over the past few years, my kidney function has steadily declined and I was recently advised by my kidney doctor to begin the process of trying to get onto a kidney transplant list. The process required a thorough medical evaluation and various medical tests to determine my medical eligibility. I was eventually accepted onto the kidney transplant list at Hackensack University Medical Center (Hackensack, NJ) in October 2025.

My Current Situation

My kidney function is currently at a critical level of 13%. Acceptance onto the Kidney Transplant List means waiting for a kidney from a deceased donor to become available with an average waiting list time of 3-7 years or finding a living kidney donor on your own. My Transplant Team strongly advised me that the better and healthier option is to find a living kidney donor. My overall health is good but my kidneys are barely functioning and the realization of depending upon dialysis to survive is becoming a real possibility. I often experience fatigue, diminished energy and stamina. Dialysis does not cure your kidney failure and it only replaces part of your kidney function. It also causes both short and long-term debilitating side-effects along with physical limitations and restrictions.

A kidney from a living donor has a much lower chance of rejection, medical complications and infections along with a greater life expectancy of 15-25 years or more as opposed to 8-15 years on average with a kidney from a deceased donor. My health will continue to decline while waiting years for a deceased kidney donor.

Various family members and friends were all evaluated as potential living kidney donors and were found to be medically ineligible as donors which is why I need help in finding a living kidney donor outside of my immediate family and close friends.

Hospital transplant centers DO NOT help patients find living kidney donors and the responsibility solely relies on the individual in need of a kidney transplant to find a living donor on their own.

What Would I Do With The Gift Of Life

Helping and caring for other individuals are values that my parents instilled in me since I was a young boy. It has remained a central core value in my daily life. It is difficult for me to ask for someone else’s kindness and generosity in giving me such an incredible gift… The Gift of Life. I have now reached a point in my life where I now have to ask others for help in finding a Living Kidney Donor. Becoming a Living Kidney Donor is one of the most selfless acts a person can make and I would honor that individual for the rest of my life by continuing to serve the needs of those less fortunate in life and continue my active role in various charitable activities within my community.

If I were blessed to receive The Gift of Life of a new kidney from a Living Donor, it would dramatically improve the longevity and quality of my life in so many ways and enable me to resume all the healthy physical activities I used to enjoy. As an uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, I want to continue to keep being an inspiration and mentor to them and pass along the same values and principles that my parents gave me. I want to continue to be an active supporter and financial contributor to St. Judes Children Hospital to help children that are suffering and to support their families at a time of great stress and fear. My wife and I dealt with these issues with various family members and know the stress and anxiety families experience when they are the most vulnerable in caring for a child fighting for their life. I also want to become more active with the various church fundraisers that I enjoyed doing with my wife prior to developing kidney failure.

Serving the needs of others has always been very important to me and I want to become a beacon of inspiration to others as a Living Kidney Donor Advocate through various speaking engagements and fundraisers to educate and energize others to consider giving The Gift of Life. I also want to become a motivational leader to others in their search for a Living Kidney Donor and guide them through their journey.

Living Donor Testimonials

Paired Exchange Testimonials

Paired Exchange is when an incompatible donor-recipient pair "exchanges or swaps" their kidneys with another incompatible donor-recipient pair resulting in both recipients receiving a compatible living kidney donor transplant. This process increases the recipient's probability of receiving a living kidney donor transplant sooner rather than depending upon finding their own direct match living kidney donor.

Benefits Of Getting Tested As A Potential Donor

  • Health Evaluation & Medical Testing is covered by MY INSURANCE…. NO COST TO YOU.
  • Testing evaluates your own health & underlying unknown issues such as Cancer, Heart Disease, Diabetes & Autoimmune Diseases, etc.
  • Getting tested is NOT A COMMITMENT to donate…. You can change your mind any time.
  • If you are eligible to donate but not a direct match, you can still be my donor through a Paired Swap Exchange where incompatible donor and recipient pairs are matched with another duo.
